Showbiz website, Deadline (via Empire), have some mighty fine news for us this morning regarding the recently announced sequel to the brilliant 80s action/buddy/comedy/drama Midnight Run. The films co-star opposite Robert De Niro, Charles Grodin, has indicated that he might be returning in some capacity for the follow-up.

Grodin doesn’t act much these days, having more or less quit major roles in the mid-90s to chill in his place in Connecticut, and was recently offered a part in the Jason Segel penned Muppets movie but spewed: "I was in The Great Muppet Caper and I think they are bringing back those of us still alive for a reprise. Jim Henson was dear to me but I’m not flying 6000 miles to Los Angeles to work one day." See, he can't be arsed - which is fair enough. For Midnight Run 2 he tentatively said, "I've been led to believe by someone I won’t name that they will ask me and I will consider it." Hey, that's better than a no.

Rumours are that the new flick will involve De Niro's bounty hunter chasing down Grodin's son, with ample opportunity for more rapid fire banter. The original is one of the best movies of the 80s, and I highly recommend checking it out. A director is still to be found.
