What does the geometry of coral look like? How can artists and scientists join forces to raise awareness of the destruction of coral reefs caused by climate change? Science Gallery's latest exhibition HYPERBOLIC CROCHET CORAL REEF is a unique and original exploration of the complex beauty of nature and the fragility of our underwater ecosystem that answers both of these questions through a mathematical odyssey into climate change. Now a global phenomenon, the HYPERBOLIC CROCHET CORAL REEF was created by Australian twins Margaret and Christine Wertheim, of the Institute For Figuring in Los Angeles, as a response to the threat that Global Warming poses to the Great Barrier Reef. Combining mathematics, environmental science and the art of crochet, the exhibition has been visited by over one million people in venues around the world. Admission Free with a suggested donation of €5.
