It's been no secret that Michael Douglas' son, Cameron, has been detained for the past eight months by the New York Police after his hotel room in the big apple was raided and a number of drugs were found. The following comes courtesy of WENN:

"31 year old Cameron Douglas faced a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years behind bars after he was arrested in August 2009 .He pleaded guilty to one count of methamphetamine possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance and one count of possession of heroin in January (10). Reports suggest Douglas Jr. had been plotting to move approximately $18,000 (or €13,400)-worth of crystal meth from California to New York to sell, when an undercover informant alerted the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration. (Did he think he was Tony Montana?)

In a bid to hopefully reduce the impending custodial sentence, Michael Douglas wrote a letter to the court calling his son 'a loving man' and 'a thoughtful friend'. Cameron's stepmother, Catherine Zeta-Jones and grandfather Kirk Douglas also penned letters to Manhattan's Federal Court in New York. Michael Douglas' letter was originally kept private but, a judge last week ruled that it should be made public. In the heartfelt message, the proud father opened up about his son's troubles, insisting Cameron is now 'sober' after a stint in rehab and has become a 'wonderful young man.' Cameron was sentenced to five years in jail."

The New York Post are saying he should have got ten, "like the ordinary sucker."
