Recent Oscar nominee, and all round ace actor, Jeremy Renner has signed on to appear in The Avengers movie being helmed by Buffy creator, Joss Whedon.
According to Empire, the SWAT and Hurt Locker star will play popular character Hawkeye in the ensemble, which will already include the bulky heroics of Thor, Iron Man, The Hulk, Captain America, and Nick Fury. The testosterone will be evened out somewhat by the pouty inclusion of Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow.
The flick is heavily in pre-production at the moment, with a summer 2012 release planned across the globe. Marvel really are handling this one with care, and the quality castings and hiring of Whedon as director are proof of that. Renner is also lining up a role in Paul Thomas Anderson's first film since There Will Be Blood.
