James McAvoy will play a young Professor Charles Xavier in the Matthew Vaughn directed, X-Men: First Class, according to the Heat Vision blog.

The Wanted star will take the role previous played by Patrick Stewart, as the plot this time centres on Professor X and Magneto when they were youngsters, and working together as ideological scientists. After a difference of opinion divides them, a war soon breaks out between both sides. Xavier's X-Men, and Magneto's Brotherhood of mutants then do battle, which was chronicled in the first three films.

McAvoy is excellent casting, and with Kick Ass director Vaughn already on board to direct, this really could be something special. Jonathon Ross's wife, Jane Goldman, is on scripting duties with Vaughn, and the film will be released next year.
