We've expected this for quite a while, but now it's official - Twin Peaks isn't going to be on our screens until 2017.

Now that showrunner / creator David Lynch has patched things up with television studio Showtime, the show's revival can begin in earnest. However, there's still a good few hurdles to cross, namely getting the stalled production back on track and people signed up for realsies.

Amanda Seyfried, Robert Forster, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Balthazar Getty have all been linked with the revival, as well as original castmembers Michael Ontkean, Sherilyn Fenn and Dana Ashbrook are all still rumoured to be returning for their specified roles. As you'd expect for something like Twin Peaks, it's all shrouded in rumour and mystery with no official confirmation on any castmember, beyond Kyle MacLachlan's Dale Cooper.

As it stands, Twin Peaks being pushed back to 2017 is no bad thing. Realistically, which would you want? A rushed-out finale to the seminal TV series or something that takes time and is as good as it can possibly be. There really is no doubt that this is the last go-around for David Lynch and his creation and, undoubtedly, he wants to be as good as it can possibly be.

We're all just gonna have to sit and wait.
