Spoiler Alert! If you're a big Doctor Who fan then you'll know that veteran actor John Hurt has signed on to star in the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Special, but until recently we really had no clue about who he'd be playing. Well, now we do, and it's come from the horse's mouth. If you don't want to know, we suggest you look away now...

Still with us? Good.

In an interview with the Eastern Daily Press (a local newspaper based in North Norfolk), the actor revealed that he'll actually be playing... dun dun dun... the Doctor. What? Allow him to explain: He says he'll be playing "part of the Doctor" in a "kind of trinity" which includes both the current Doctor (Matt Smith) and Time Lord incarnation number 10, David Tennant.

Now, that all may sound a little bit confusing, but it would fit in perfectly with all those theories that have been floating around about the episode being set during The Time War, and featuring an array of alternate realities. We're not quite sure what to make of it ourselves...

Guess we'll just have to wait until the special airs later this year to find out what's really going on!
