What to Watch on the Box this Weekend

The weekend is here and it looks like it may even be a sunny one at that, although it's hard to trust any weather predictions these days. So just in case the sun doesn't make an appearance, here's what you can catch on the box...

FRIDAY

Have I Got News For You
BBC1: 9.00pm

Brand new series of this comedy quiz show kicks off tonight with one-time wizard Daniel Radcliffe sitting in the hosting chair. This will be Harry Potter's, sorry, Daniel's, second time hosting the show which pokes fun at this week's headlines. Helping things along will of course be team captains Paul Merton and Ian Hislop, who tonight will be joined by actress and comedienne Diane Morgan, best known for playing Philomena Cunk on Charlie Brooker's Weekly Wipe, and writer and satirist Armando Iannucci.

The Graham Norton Show
BBC1: 10:35pm

He's back! Graham Norton had a little well deserved hiatus there for a few weeks but he shall be back on our screens tonight, and he's sporting a beard too! As always, he will have a sofa full of stars as he's joined by Hunger Games and Fortitude actor Stanley Tucci, who reveals another string to his bow when he talks about his new cookery book, The Tucci Table. Comedians Harry Enfield and Paul Whitehouse discuss how they are teaming up again to go on tour, and there is music by electro-pop trio Years & Years, performing their single, King. Not bad!

Biggest Band Breakups and Makeups
BBC4: 9.00pm

Being in a successful band sounds like a dream lifestyle in many ways, travelling the world entertaining your masses of fans, but then... there can always be too much of a good thing, as we learned when Zayn left One Direction recently. Or when Robbie left Take That... or John Lennon leaving The Beatles... the list goes on. This documentary sees Mark Radcliffe look at the highs and lows of life in the music industry, focusing on the creative tension that produces great material (Fleetwood Mac being the obvious example here) as well as the pressures that comes with success and fame that can pull groups apart. He examines the most common reasons bands split up, as well as the secrets of those that managed to stay together.

SATURDAY

RTE Racing from Aintree: The Grand National 2015
RTE2: 2.35pm, Channel 4: 1.00pm

Live coverage of the 168th staging of the world's most famous steeple chase at Aintree, with the main event taking place at 4.15pm. Set to be watched by millions across the world, there will be many a bet put down, but only one winner. Who will follow in the footsteps of last year's champ Pineau De Re and clinch it?

Britain's Got Talent
TV3: 8.00pm

Brand new series of the talent show kicks off tonight with a fresh search for Britain's brightest new star. As usual, there will be a whole mix of skills on display, from a hypnotising dog act to a girl with a gravity-defying hula hoop. It's all to play for though with the winner taking home £250,000 and a slot at this year's Royal Variety Performance. No change to the judges lineup with Simon Cowell, David Walliams, Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon all returning while Ant and Dec are back on hosting duties.

I Give It A Year
Channel 4: 9.20pm

Who doesn't love a silly rom-com on a Saturday night, eh? I Give It A Year stars Rafe Spall and Rose Byrne as two loved-up twenty-somethings who decide to get married after a brief courtship. However, within just a year of said marriage, there's frictions beginning to appear and saucy alternatives in the mix. Can they last another a year? Also, keep an eye out for Stephen Merchant as well. He's always funny.

SUNDAY

Live Masters Golf: The Final Day
Setanta Ireland: 7.00pm, Sky Sports 1: 7.00pm, BBC Two: 6.30pm

All eyes will be on Augusta this Sunday for the final round of the Masters, and it has produced some spectacular moments in the last few years. Bubba Watson's impossible shot back in 2012 is perhaps the most dramatic one in recent memory, but as with every year, the pressure of this famous course may begin to tell on the leader and the contenders as the action comes to a close today. Will McIlroy still be in with a chance? Will Spieth be able to keep his early lead? Can Tiger Woods produce one more day in the sun with no one giving him a real chance? You'll have to tune in to find out...

Would You Believe - The Tuam Babies
RTE1: 10.35pm

Historian Catherine Corless was catapulted into news headlines last year with her discovery that as many as 800 babies had been buried in an unmarked mass grave in Tuam, Co Galway. That discovery turned her into a media celebrity overnight but also led to her meeting and helping many men and women born in the Tuam home anxious to trace their roots and finally be free of the shame Irish society had made them feel about their birth.

Other Voices
RTE2: 10.50pm

New series of the Irish music show which celebrates new and innovative talent at home and abroad. Hosted by Aidan Gillen, Other Voices is filmed in the stunning Kerry town of Dingle with the idyllic St James Church used as the main setting for performances. This opening episode features the one and only Damien Rice, who made his comeback last year with album My Favourite Faded Fantasy. There will also be performances by All We Are and singer-songwriter Joseph Lyons, while newcomers Cloud Castle Lake will be in the IMRO Other Room. Lovely!
