If you're a fan of Netflix and Marvel's Daredevil and Jessica Jones then we've got some bad news for you.

It could be 2018 at the earliest before we new seasons of either. The reason? Their production schedules and the fact that both characters are set to team up in a Defenders series.

Daredevil already had a second season which arrived earlier this year and Jessica Jones season two was expected to come along either late this year or early 2017. However, according to Netflix boss, Ted Sarandos, we've a while to wait yet.

"Luke Cage next and then Iron Fist and then Defenders," he said. "And then we'll start slotting the second and third seasons of the shows that are upcoming, but they haven’t gone beyond that yet."

Sarandos also answered as to whether the streaming service would ever look to extend its output to more than two shows a year.

"I doubt that we could produce at the quality that they produce at that speed. But we’re gonna try to make them quicker so we can get less downtime between them."

The Defenders is currently in production and due to arrive at some stage in 2017 and follow up seasons for Daredevil and Jessica Jones are likely to only go into production next year meaning it will be 2018 before we see them on our screens.

There's also a Punisher series in the works but given Sarandos' response to the idea of him showing up in The Defenders ("Uh... stay tuned."), we'd say it's a safe bet we won't have to wait until 2018 to see Frank Castle again.

The first trailers for Luke Cage and Iron Fist arrived at Comic Con as well as a teaser for The Defenders so we'll have plenty of action from Marvel's TV universe between now and then.
