The BBC are making sure that we leave all our troubles behind us in 2016 and start 2017 off right.

We've all been waiting for 'Sherlock' to come back to our screens for so long that we'd almost given up hope on ever seeing Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman onscreen together again but last night the BBC resolved our feelings of abandonment and gave us something to look forward to - the boys are back on New Year's Day.

The official Sherlock Twitter account announced the date with a simple picture of Sherlock's violin (with a broken string) and the date '01.01.2017', leading to all sorts of excitement and even more questions.

They followed up that tease with a brand new trailer that dropped just after everyone had finished sobbing over the final ever episode of 'The Great British Bake Off' on BBC.

We can finally be excited again.
