President Michael D. Higgins was a very special guest on the Late Late Show last night when he joined Ryan for a cracking interview that covered his plans for the future, working as a waiter in his youth and Mel Gibson being in awe of his tweed suits.

Host Ryan Tubridy noted that President Higgins was flying the flag for tweed wearers across the country even influencing the style of a Hollywood A lister.

The conversation then turned to his work experience as a younger man and how being a qualified waiter still stands to him in the Arás.

Finally, Tubridy asked about the future and whether President Higgins would consider seeking a second term. He was drowned out by cheers and applause from the audience before he could begin articulating his answer.

It wasn't just the studio audience that were thrilled with President Higgins, with the Twitter machine in overdrive as people were quick to praise the country's first citizen.
