John Oliver's weekly news satire show Last Week Tonight sees the host look at some of the most controversial current affairs stories that are often flying under the radar, and last night's episode saw him tackle the issue of corporate taxes.

The host flagged how many American companies are getting away with not paying the 35% corporate tax and setting up in low tax countries.

Oliver mentions how Apple CEO Tim Cook appeared in Congress a few years back to defend Apple insisting they always pay their tax and "don't stash money on a Carribean island".

"Technically correct," Oliver said. "Apple didn't stash their money on a Caribbean island. They did, however, stash their money on this island - Ireland - which it's true, is not in the Caribbean so one word made a lot of difference there."
