Some of us here in the office are hardcore Star Trek fans. One time, we worked out how long it would take to watch every Star Trek film without a break.

The answer, FYI, was 23.25 hours.

Anyway, US Republican Senator Ted Cruz, who's also running for President, weighed in with some fan theories on Star Trek during a recent interview.

Cruz believes that "it is quite likely that Kirk is a Republican and Picard is a Democrat." Shocking. And totally wrong.

There's more: "Kirk is working class; Picard is an aristocrat. Kirk is a passionate fighter for justice; Picard is a cerebral philosopher."

Wrong again, Ted Cruz.

Kirk actually grew up in Riverside, Iowa and his father was a crewman aboard the USS Kelvin. Picard, on the other hand, grew up in a vineyard in La Barre, France and was the first member of his family to join Starfleet.

And plus, as well, monetary systems are completely different in the future - there is no working class and aristocracy.

Wow, who'd have thought a Republican would weigh in on matters they know absolutely nothing about? Jesus.

The comments from Ted Cruz reached the ears of William Shatner, the actor who played Kirk. Needless to say, he wasn't happy.

And there you have it. Actual Captain Kirk shut his ass down.

We'd also like to hear Ted Cruz's opinions on whether or not the Galactic Empire was a stable system of government and whether or not the Death Star's destruction was a false-flag operation.
