Ireland's favourite eighties mammy and daddy first appeared on our screens a few years ago on Republic of Telly, when Jennifer Zamparelli (formerly Maguire) and Bernard O'Shea brought Bridget and Eamon to life.

The sketches were guaranteed viral content for the show and their success led RTE to commissioning a six-part series for Bridget and Eamon. While there are plenty that wondered if it could carry itself over a half-hour programme, last night's debut proved that it had the comedy chops to deliver what was one solid half-hour of entertainment.

So far the reaction has been hugely positive to the series, if Twitter is anything to go by, and although it's early days, both Jennifer and Bernard are hopeful the show will go far.

We spoke to them at the recent screening of the first episode in RTE where naturally comparisons to the hugely successful Mrs Brown's Boys were made; "We'd take 10pc of that success and we'd be very happy, we'd love to take it to the stage".

Adding; "We made a show for Irish people, in Ireland, with Irish actors and crew. But if that takes off, brilliant."

While Bernard said; "We'd love all that and we'd love to do live shows, but we just need to wait and see how the public reacts to this."

So what did people make of last night's first episode?

Some high praise indeed...

While Jennifer and Bernard had this to say...

Bridget and Eamon continues next Monday on RTE2 at 10pm.
