HBO have officially committed to a third season of the Nic Pizzolatto’s crime anthology series and after previously confirming newly minted Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali will be starring, the show has announced its writers and directors.
According to Deadline, 'Green Room' director Jeremy Saulnier is joining the series and will direct alongside Pizzolatto, who will be the sole writer on the season apart from one episode written by David Milch.
"I’m tremendously thrilled to be working with artists at the level of Mahershala and Jeremy," Pizzolatto said in a statement. "I hope the material can do justice to their talents, and we’re all very excited to tell this story."
"Nic has written truly remarkable scripts," added HBO president Casey Bloys. "With his ambitious vision and Mahershala Ali and Jeremy Saulnier aboard, we are excited to embark on the next installment of True Detective."
Here's the official logline for the season, which is just as vague as we're used to:
The next installment of True Detective tells the story of a macabre crime in the heart of the Ozarks, and a mystery that deepens over decades and plays out in three separate time periods.
Ali will play the lead role of Wayne Hays, a state police detective from Northwest Arkansas. As of yet, there is no episode count or premiere date but if we're being realistic, it will probably be early 2019 before we see this.
