So far, that is. Although we can't imagine anything having such a cult following between now and the end of the year unless RTÉ spring a Love/Hate Christmas special on us out of nowhere (but that's very unlikely).

This year's Late Late Toy Show was viewed by an average of 1.357 million people, with RTÉ reporting that the number of people who watched at least one minute of the show, either live or afterwards on the RTÉ Player, hit 1.954 million.

Managing Director of RTÉ Television Glen Killane said: "The Late Late Toy Show is a special programme that has become an annual event in nearly every Irish home, bringing families and the nation together. Almost 90 per cent of all children watching television in Ireland on the night were tuned in to The Late Late Toy Show as were nearly three quarters of the total available audience. That level of engagement is unique among broadcasters in Europe and proves that RTÉ, and RTÉ One in particular, delivers programming that brings the nation together."

On top of that, 91,000 tweets were sent on the night with the official #LateLateToyShow hashtag, peaking at 620 tweets a minute during the broadcast.

Safe to say we'll be seeing it return next year then, despite everything that went on.
