You may recall a franchise called Divergent that was expected to be the next Hunger Games, and it almost was for a while. The first film did solid business, the second okay enough. But the third, Allegiant, bombed causing Lionsgate to panic and instead announce it would be tv series going forward.

This was news to stars Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort - who are on the cusp of genuine stardom - and there seemed to be a bit of an impasse as they wouldn't be appearing in show that wasn't overtly prestige - Woodley in Big Little Lies for instance. Producers had quite the conundrum.

Now word is the series will happen with the feature's proposed director, Lee Toland Krieger (The Age Of Adaline) and writer Adam Cozad (Tarzan) staying on board and cable network Starz housing the drama series.

No word on a cast or how it will relate to the previous 3 films, but Ascendant is a go in one form or another right now.
