After decades in Hollywood, it looks like the Coen Brothers are prepared to try television for their next project.

According to Variety, the Oscar winning team are working on a limited series Western called The Ballad of Buster Scruggs. It sounds from the report that the story started life as a movie but eventually became too big.

The sources noted by Variety are suggesting that the Coens may look to use an innovative approach that could see a theatrical element to the project but how this would be executed hasn't been disclosed.

No plot details have been released as yet but it is said the story will intertwine six different storylines across the series. The story is an original idea from the Coens and the duo plan to direct the series.

It will be the brothers' first ever serious involvement with a television project. Although their film, Fargo, was successfully adapted for the small screen, their involvement never amounted to more than giving a few development notes starting out.
