The Big Brother house has been an integral part of the reality TV series since its inception, and it's as much an institution as the Diary Room or the voiceover guy.

However, rumours have abounded recently that flagging ratings for the show mean that cancellation is on the cards. In fact, Channel 5 bosses have said that the show was unlikely to return in its current form. Just to add fuel to the fire, the Big Brother house is now at the centre of a planning application which is set to expire in a few months.

According to The Sun, two applications made to a local council - one in 2013 and the other in 2016 - are set to expire in September of this year. The first was for permissions for production of the show itself, i.e. eviction shows, corporate events, and the like. The second was for building an extension to the studio for a television set.

Neither applications have been extended and if they're not done soon, they'll lose permission to keep the buildings erected as they currently are. The show has been filmed at Elstree since 2002, but the show's ailing figures and lack of interest could mean the end of the show as we know it.
