TV3 have managed to get one over on their national broadcaster rivals today by headhunting and poaching their Channel Controller for RTE2, Bill Malone.

Malone is set to join the TV3 Group as Director of Programming, and will oversee development of all TV3 Group channels. This will involve commissioning, acquisitions and scheduling for the Virgin Media owned television group, which now includes UTV Ireland.

Bill will be reporting to the TV3 Group Managing Director, Pat Kiely, who said;

"Bill has a wealth of experience across a range of programming disciplines. This appointment will ensure our programming strategy can continue to deliver great, high quality content especially as we enter a growth phase for the business. Bill is a very strong addition to the team and joins at an exciting time for TV3 Group."

Bill is the man responsible for commissioning the hugely popular First Dates Ireland for RTE2 as well as The Voice of Ireland for RTE1. Prior to that Bill also produced The Late Late Show, worked on Prime Time and is an award-winning documentary maker.

No doubt the 46-year-old will want to leave a similar mark over in TV3, which can only mean good things for viewers.
