It's the end of a quite interesting era.

The BBC announced today that after 13 seasons, the hit comedy panel quiz with impossible questions 'QI' is to lose its host Stephen Fry, who will be replaced by regular panelist Sandi Toksvig.

In a statement, the BBC celebrated Fry's "sparkling wit, charm and effortless erudition" and said that while they "are all very sad he’s decided to move on", they are "confident that we have found the perfect person to occupy his gigantic shoes".

Fry commented:

"For 13 years I had one of the best jobs on television. Behind the camera, squadrons of quite extraordinarily brilliant researchers, programme-makers and uniquely curious (in both senses of the word) people making that job so much easier. In front of the camera, generations of lively minds and above all, of course, the wonder of nature that is Alan Davies. After passing the alphabetical halfway mark I thought it time to move on, but I will never cease to be grateful to John Lloyd for devising QI and for everyone else for making it such fun."

It really won't be the same without him.

Fry's last season as host, based on the letter 'M', has already been recorded and will broadcast later in the autumn on BBC Two.

Danish-born writer, presenter, actor and comic Toksvig, an "old friend and university contemporary" of Fry's will take the reins for the 14th 'N' season is 2016. Alan Davies will continue on as a regular panelist and everyone's favourite punchline.
