Captain's log, stardate 2017.9: things just got very awkward at the Christmas mixer.

The latest captain to join the 'Star Trek' universe is feeling a little less welcome to the franchise this morning after discovering that the original and first captain to boldy go where no man has gone before, William Shatner, has blocked him on Twitter.

Jason Isaacs made the discovery (eyyyyyy) last night and addressed it in a tweet poking fun at Shatner and his now iconic (and hilarious for all the wrong reasons) portrayal of Captain James T. Kirk in the original 'Star Trek' series.

The real reason for Shatner's blocking probably comes down to their opposing political views.

Isaacs is very vocal about being anti-Trump (in his latest tweet about the president, he said that Trump made "the single strongest argument for euthanasia I’ve ever read") while Shatner attacked SJWs in a Twitter rant in July, which we imagine puts them on opposite ends of the spectrum.

But the trigger? It may have come from Isaacs recent comments to Metro that he doesn't think cameos from the original series cast would work on the show, saying: "If you have stunt celebrity cameo casting, it completely pulls them out of it. They feel like they’re watching a Saturday Night Live sketch."

"So I just hope people believe our stories, are engaged with them, and I’m happy to meet Will Shatner in real life in a restaurant," Jason added.

We reckon that dinner date is cancelled.
