Dominic West has admitted that he was offered a role on Game of Thrones.

There had been rumours before that the 46 year old British actor was being eyed up to take on the role of Mance Rayder when they were making season three of the show. The role eventually went to our own Ciaran Hinds which was the right decision we think. Ciaran definitely looks more like a man that could lead a thousands strong army of wildlings.

However West has admitted that he was offered the role first. Speaking on ITV's This Morning, he was asked by Holly Willoughby put it to him if the rumours were true. Although being coy on the matter initially, Holly's co-host Philip Schofield eventually dragged it out of him.

"I was probably doing The Affair. That was the problem. If they asked me again, I’d be delighted." West said.

Dominic of course spent five seasons on another critically acclaimed HBO series, playing Detective Jimmy McNulty on The Wire so he's got the profanity down and as his current show The Affair proves he's not afraid to show off his bum either. In short, he's perfect for Game of Thrones
