For most, Sean Bean's most iconic small screen role will always be Game of Thrones' Ned Stark but to overlook his other TV work would be a crime.

Before Game of Thrones, Bean was one a number of high profile names to appear in Jimmy McGovern's Accused which focused on people awaiting verdicts at trial and told the stories of how they got there through flashback. Bean was terrific in the series which also starred Stephen Graham, Olivia Colman, John Bishop and our own Robbie Sheehan.

Now Bean and McGovern are teaming up again for Broken which will see the Lord of the Rings star play a modern Catholic priest with responsibilities for a Northern urban parish.

Digital Spy report that the show will follow his attempts to reconcile his religious beliefs with the demands of contemporary Britain as he supports his congregation struggling with the same problem.

Bean said he was "excited at the prospect of working with Jimmy McGovern again. His scripts are raw and real and he creates fantastic and interesting characters that resonate with society today. I'm also thrilled to have Ashley Pearce on board as director."
