Get ready for a whole new series of science saving the day as the show's creator and the US National Academy of Engineering, the University of Southern California's Viterbi school of engineering and the MacGyver Foundation are all teaming up to bring the show back to your screens, but this time they want MaGyver to be a woman.

MacGyver, first name Angus (which we're still shaken by), featured Richard Dean Anderson getting himself in and out of all sorts of ridiculous and dangerous situations all with the help of his Swiss Army knife, some duct tape and some chewing gum and whatever else he tended to have lying around. And this reboot hopes to inspire the same creativity in viewers and encourage more women into becoming engineers.

'The Next MacGyver' contest will see fans of the show submitting entries in the hopes of creating "the first great TV show starring an iconic female engineer character", and could win $5,000 and the chance to work on their idea with a Hollywood producer.

We're in, but only if they make the intro as cheesy as this and keep the theme tune.
