Viewers bemoaned the fact that Stephen Merchant would not be returning for a full series of The Crystal Maze after his one off celebrity version in aid of Stand Up to Cancer was such hit.
However they're getting Richard Ayoade instead which is a step up in many people's eyes. The former IT Crowd star will be presenting twenty hour long episodes of the game show reboot for Channel 4 and the network has released the first look images of the funnyman on set.
The series' format is expected to remain largely the same as the original with teams of five contestants putting their physical and mental skills to the test in a bid to make it to the crystal dome. They'll navigate the Aztec, Medieval, Industrial and Future zones of the maze facing "a range of skill, mystery, physical and mental challenges."
Channel 4 has also confirmed that there will be a pair of celebrity editions airing during the year as well.
