Netflix seem to be in a cancelling mood these days and right on the back of the news that 'The Get Down' won't be coming back for a second season, the streaming service announced today that 'Sense8' will end with its current second season.
"After 23 episodes, 16 cities and 13 countries, the story of the Sense8 cluster is coming to an end," Cindy Holland, VP of Netflix original content, said in a statement to TV Show Patrol. "It is everything we and the fans dreamed it would be: bold, emotional, stunning, kick ass, and outright unforgettable."
"Never has there been a more truly global show with an equally diverse and international cast and crew, which is only mirrored by the connected community of deeply passionate fans all around the world. We thank Lana, Lilly, Joe and Grant for their vision, and the entire cast and crew for their craftsmanship and commitment."
The Netflix series came from the minds of the creators of 'The Matrix' and 'Babylon 5', Lana and Lilly Wachowski and J. Michael Straczynski, and centered on eight strangers who suddenly became psychically linked to each other while finding themselves on the run from a mysterious agency that was hunting them down.
It made a big splash in the buildup to its arrival but since it debuted in 2015, it never really felt like it connected with a larger audience in the way 'Orange Is The New Black' and 'House of Cards' did. And with each episode in the second season costing $9 million to make, the chances are that Netflix thought their money could be better spent elsewhere.
