Well this is the most perfect casting news we've heard in some time. We're not even sure if Nadine Coyle can act, but who cares? She was Ireland's original Derry girl and she belongs on that show.

The former Girls Aloud singer revealed to The Irish Daily Star that she has been in contact with Derry Girls writer Lisa McGee about series two, which has already been commissioned by Channel 4.

"Yes I’m going to speak to the writer about that," she said. “I’m going to call Lisa today actually, we’re sorting something out for the next series.

"It’s based on the same school I went to, the same Catholic school, so we have loads of similar experiences," added Nadine.

"I loved the first series so I’d love to do something for the second."

Derry Girls star Nicola Coughlan, who plays Clare, previously revealed she masterted the Derry accent by watching videos of Nadine on YouTube.

We can only hope her upcoming role involves wee Nadine losing her passport or confusing her birthday somehow.

You can catch Derry Girls tonight on Channel 4 at 10pm.
