True Detective won widespread acclaim when it first aired on HBO back in 2014 thanks in no small part to the performances of stars, Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson.
However the second installment of the series was decidedly less well received. So much so that the show is officially on a hiatus as HBO plans its next step for the series.
If a third season of the show does come about, many fans would love to see the return of McConaughey's Rust Cohle and now the man himself has said that he "wouldn't hesitate for a second" to do another season of the show.
The actor appeared on The Rich Eisen Show over the weekend and the host brought up the possibility of him returning to the crime anthology series.
“Last time you were on the show, Matthew … I asked you at the time, ‘well, what about maybe doing it again?’ And you said, ‘that’s a possibility.’ Has that ball been advanced any further down the field since we last spoke?” asked Eisen.
“That conversation you and I had caught wings because I hear that all the time now,” McConaughey said. “That ball’s not advanced at all. I’ve talked to the creator Nic Pizzolatto, who’s taking a little break from it. But again, if that thing was written well and it came up again, I wouldn’t hesitate for a second.”
There's been no official plans for a third season but it's probably nice for showrunner, Nic Pizzolatto, to know that if he ever did want to explore Rust Cohle's character further, McConaughey would be very interested in looking at it.
