He's spent the last fortnight Dancing On The Edge but now Matthew Goode is heading for The Vatican. And no, he's not replacing Benedict XIY.

The British actor is teaming up with Ridley Scott for a new TV pilot that takes a look at politics and religion within the Catholic Church. Deadline reports that Goode's been cast as Papal Secretary Bern Koch, a man with an awful lot of power to play around with, and a pretty close friendship with the Pope. It's being made for Showtime, the same lot who brought us The Tudors, so we're wondering who'll be flashing the flesh this time?

It's still in the very early stages, as are most new series emerging from the US of A (the joys of Pilot Season, Amy Huberman knows all too well) but with Sony Pictures TV and Scott Free producing, this one may just have enough divine power to be picked up by the network.
