Joss Whedon, the creator behind 'Buffy The Vampire Slayer', 'Firefly', 'Dollhouse' and the director of 'Avengers' and 'Avengers: Age Of Ultron' has begun work on a brand-new sci-fi series for HBO.
Titled 'The Nevers', the series is described as "an epic science fiction drama about a gang of Victorian women who find themselves with unusual abilities, relentless enemies, and a mission that might change the world."
According to multiple sources, a vicious bidding war broke out between HBO and Netflix for the series, with HBO securing the deal by ordering it straight to series - something that's pretty rare for HBO to do. Whedon is understood to be serving as both writer, director, executive producer and showrunner for the series, but there's been no word on casting as of yet.
In the announcing statement, Whedon described the series as "maybe the most ambitious narrative I’ve created" and added that it's "been too long since I created an entirely new fictional world." No release date been fixed as of yet, but HBO are clearly keen to find a replacement to 'Game Of Thrones' if the prequel series doesn't pan out in the way they hope.
