You may recall a 100 tweet-long thread that was trending a couple of weeks ago that argued that Joey and Rachel should have ended up together on Friends.

The thread – which you can read in full here – from Twitter user @kaneandgriffin actually makes a really compelling argument for how the two are way better suited for one another and how Ross is actually a pretty damaging partner for Rachel.

However, in a recent interview with Elle, Jennifer Aniston totally shot the theory down and insisted that Ross and Rachel were meant for one another.

“No! No, no,” Aniston said when asked if she secretly wished that Joey and Rachel had made it.

“They tried! I think there was a moment when Joey and Rachel got together that maybe it could happened, but it didn’t. It was Ross and Rachel all the way. I really believe that if there’s an afterworld of Friends, they’re still thriving. Don’t you?

“I just don’t think Joey and Rachel could have made it. I think it was more physical than emotional with them. They were friends with benefits, and they left it at that.”

Ok, that’s fair enough, but we can’t help but wonder what could’ve been if Rachel had stayed on that plane…
