This new drama Gotham seems like the next big TV show on the cards if reports are anything to go by, and it looks like Jada Pinkett Smith is the latest star to join the cast. The drama will focus in on the early days of Batman's Gotham city, with actor Ben McKenzie of The O.C and Southland fame set to play the lead as a young Commissioner Gordon.

Jada will play a gangster called Fish Mooney who is described as: "A sadistic gangster boss and nightclub owner, Fish Mooney’s got the street smarts and almost extra-sensory abilities to read people like an open book. Imposing and hotheaded, she’s not one to be crossed."

This isn't Miss Smith's first jaunt into the TV world, having previously starred in medical drama Hawthorne from 2009-11, as well as a role on the Bill Cosby college series A Different World from 1991-93.

The show sounds fairly promising and it's set to look back at the origins of a whole host of the comic book's villains including The Penguin, who will be played by twenty-something year old
Robin Lord Taylor. Jada's character Mooney will actually play the boss of Oswald Cobblepot aka The Penguin on the show.

The character of a young Bruce Wayne is yet to be cast though - will be interesting to see which young Hollywood star will nab that iconic role, although from what we can tell, it will be all about Commisioner Gordan anyways. Pretty excited about seeing Ryan Atwood back on our telly boxes soon!

Gotham is expected to air on Fox in Autumn of this year.
