It's looking like The Simpsons creators are really planning on mixing things up in this upcoming 27th season, earlier on in the week we had news that Bart Simpson is set to die this year, albeit only in the Halloween Special, and now it's been announced that Homer and Marge will separate in the upcoming season.

In an interview with Variety, executive producer Al Jean explained; "It’s discovered after all the years Homer has narcolepsy - a chronic neurological disorder that affects the control of sleep, causing uncontrollable episodes of falling asleep, even during activities that demand attention - and it’s an incredible strain on the marriage."

He also revealed that there would even be another woman involved, in the form of Homer's pharmacist, voiced by none other than Girls star Lena Dunham.

Here it is from the horse's mouth; "Homer and Marge legally separate, and Homer falls in love with his pharmacist, who’s voiced by Lena Dunham." Jean added; "We’ll have cameos from the other women from Girls."

This isn't the first time Homer has been tempted to stray, back in '93 he took quite the shining to co-worker Mindy, voiced by Michelle Pfeiffer, but didn't let it get too far before reuniting with Marge.

Will it be the same story again? Surely Homer and Marge can't split... for good?!

We doubt it, but looking forward to seeing how this one plays out all the same.
