Homeland may have been renewed for a further two seasons beyond the upcoming season six but that's all we're going to get from Carrie Mathison and co. as the showrunners have announced that season eight will be the show's last.

Executive producer/showrunner Alex Gansa told Deadline that his writing team are planning for season eight to be the show's final chapter.

Season six of the show is set to premiere in January will be set in New York and will see the show return to US soil for the first time since season three. The last two seasons of the show were set in Afghanistan and Germany respectively.

Gansa also shared his desire to film one of the final two seasons (preferably eight) in Israel which would make the show one of the most internationally diverse located television series in history.
