Home and Away has killed off popular character Kat Chapman, with her final scenes airing in Australia today (December 18th). The policewoman dies following a car crash in what was a special 90-minute triple episode.

It comes about after Kat makes the decision to go on the run with her boyfriend Robbo, freeing him from prison in the process. There was never really any coming back from a decision like that, although this is soapland, so who knows.

Her death proves all the more heartbreaking as Kat is also pregnant, with her unborn baby dying too. Robbo survives the crash but remains on the run.

Actress Pia Miller, who plays Kat, told TV Week: "It was super emotional. The cast and crew become an extended family. We spend more time with them then we do our own families sometimes, so it was incredibly hard knowing I wouldn't be returning back on set the following week.

"Like with anyone's last day, we have a really nice exit ceremony with everyone and our producer, Lucy, makes a toast. I felt sad but also really proud to have been part of the show."

She added: "It was a huge part of my life for three years and I am so proud to have been a part of Home and Away. It has provided me with a really solid foundation and so many skills."

Pia first appeared on the soap in February 2015 and went on to earn herself a nomination for Most Popular New Talent in Australia's biggest TV awards ceremony, the Logies.

As we said though, it will still be some time until we see Kat's on-screen death over this part of the world, with the episodes expected to be shown on RTE2 in March.
