It's arguably been one of the most troubled productions in recent TV history, but Westworld is finally making its way to our screens.

The JJ Abrams-produced, Jonathan Nolan-written, Anthony Hopkins amongst others-starring series is being touted as one of the most audacious productions HBO has ever mounted, but it's not been without its fair share of controversy or problems.

As we reported a few months ago, the series was at the centre of an actor's equity row over nude scenes which involved some pretty bizarre requests - including naked people making the form of a table, to name a few. More recently, however, the production was shut down for a few months whilst writers caught up with scripting for the final episodes of the first series.

The series was originally slated for a 2015 release, however that deadline was quickly pushed back to an unspecified date in 2016. As it stands, HBO is scheduling Westworld for Autumn 2016, meaning that we could see the first episode of Westworld before September.

As well as an allegedly massive budget, Westworld also boasts a huge cast that includes Anthony Hopkins, Ed Harris, Evan Rachel Wood, Thandie Newton and James Marsden. It's hoped that Westworld will take over the reigns as HBO's flagship series as Game of Thrones hurtles towards its finale.

We'll know if that's the case or not before the end of the year, but in the meantime, here's the first teaser for the series.
