Graham Norton and Brendan O'Carroll win big at this year's British Comedy Awards

We knew we were a nation of funny feckers so glad to see some folk are finally getting a bit of well earned credit for it. The annual British Comedy Awards took place last night in London and saw some of our finest comic talents pick up a gong.

The event, hosted by Jonathan Ross, had a huge honour in store for Mrs Brown's Boys star Brendan O' Carroll, giving him the Writers' Guild of Great Britain Award for his hit comedy show. Not bad, ey? Whatever you make of Mrs Brown's Boys, you can't deny its success.

That's not the only Irish acknowledgement though, they couldn't leave Graham Norton going home empty handed as the Cork comedian scooped a double win, bagging the Best Comedy Entertainment Programme Award and Best Comedy Entertainment Personality.

On top of that, Chris O' Dowd's Moone Boy managed to win Best Sitcom, while Aisling Bea won Best Female TV Comic... didn't we tell you that lady was going places?

Other awards on the night went to the likes of Jack Whitehall who was named 'King of Comedy' for the third year running, while the British Comedy Academy Lifetime Achievement Award went to Monty Python.
