Fans of Game of Thrones were treated to a whole load of delicious season five teasers at the recent Comic-Con in San Diego. New characters were revealed, as well as interviews with some of the amazing talent behind the show, most important being the author of the books himself, Mr George RR Martin.

While they never give too much away about upcoming seasons, Martin did tell Vulture that he would not be contributing to the script writing for season five at all this time round, as he would be spending his time working on the sixth book in the series. Disappointing, but then there is no series without the books so he probably should just be left at it for a while.

To date, the author has contributed one script per season so this will be the first time he hasn't, he also doesn't think he will get to do any set visits this time round or be involved in any of the production. Writing the epic tales of Westeros is a full time job no doubt.

Martin said; "I've got to finish the book The Winds of Winter. So I'm making the trips I'm already obligated to make, but I'm not adding any new trips at this time. So I don't think I'm going to do a set visit this year, sadly."

He also commented on the new cast members joining the show for the next season saying that he didn't have much to do with choosing them, but that suited him; "In the earlier seasons I was much more involved with casting. I would review tapes and comment, but that's a time-consuming process."

"And at this point, we're five seasons in, we have the best casting director in the business in Nina Gold, David [Benioff] and Dan [Weiss] have been running the show, and it's a well-oiled machine, so it really doesn't need me down there with the oil can squeaking at the wheels."

Yeah, you just keep the head down and get writing George - characters need to be unexpectedly killed off, weddings need to be planned...
