Is nothing sacred? We were one of Buffy the Vampire Slayer's biggest fans but let's just leave the past in the past and not rehash every god damn thing we loved once for the sake of nostalgia.
The worst part is, we would watch the shit out of a revival. You see the self-loathing these reboots produce?
Anyways, we'll get to the point. While there is no confirmation of any revivial of the hit series, there are a lot of people who are very keen, with Fox TV group chair Gary Newman saying this week at the INTV Conference in Jerusalem: "I think if you look in our library, ‘Buffy’ is probably the most ripe show we have for bringing back." However, he added that he "wouldn’t get out of the building alive" if he actually announced it.
It seems it's all down to one person - the show's creator Joss Whedon.
"It’s something we talk about frequently, and Joss Whedon is really one of the greatest creators we ever worked with," Newman said. "When Joss decides it’s time, we’ll do it. And until Joss decides it’s time, it won’t happen."
Newman also referred to previous shows Fox had revived, including The X Files and Prison Break, saying: "Most times when we brought things back, it started with the creator coming to us and saying I’ve got another story I want to tell. It seems to me that if there isn’t a real sense of nostalgia, a passionate fan base demonstrating they still want it then I don’t really buy bringing these shows back."
He continued: "I think more than anything it’s a marketing opportunity. People are aware of the show, you don’t have to build awareness. If the show’s beloved, you get a great deal of intent to view right from the get go.
"If you do it cynically, if you don’t have a great creative reason to do it, I don’t think it’s going to work."
Sounds like he's just talked himself out of it if you ask us - here's hoping anyway.
