Ah, the heady days of the early '00s when TV actually had to come up with formats to scare the bejaysus out of you - rather than relying on the news like we do now.

Fear Factor, which ran from 2001 to 2006 and was hosted by Joe Rogan, was a ratings hit on its initial run and sparked a pop culture phenomenon and numerous copycat shows along with it. Although the show was brought back for a number of specials in 2011, the series was more or less thought to be done and dusted.

However, a report by Variety has confirmed that MTV, of all places, is planning on bringing back Fear Factor for a new series. No air date has been confirmed, however it's understood that Joe Rogan is out as host and Ludacris - and his photoshopped abs - are replacing him as host.

MTV are keen to get the show up and running as soon as possible, obviously owing to the fact that a writer's strike is on the horizon.
