There's been a lot of complaining, a #freekaty movement and an actual petition but Katy will soon be free.

The original idea was only meant to last a week but has snowballed into a whole year of our lives and viewers have been getting very impatient. We had the kidnap, the reveal that Ciaran was the kidnapper, Heather finding out, Heather forgetting when she got brain damage, Emmet being tormented by the captor, Emmet finding out it was Ciaran, Emmet getting brain damage…(not really). But there have been so many twists we're feeling a bit dizzy.

For everyone's whining though, the cast are still delighted to have been involved. Johnny Ward, who plays Ciaran, said "All the stuff with the petition, it's got more people talking and tuning into the show…It's healthy stick." Daithí Mac Suibhne who plays Emmet thinks it's been great to have involved in something that's got everyone talking, "It's been amazing to be the first story on the entertainment section."

While Katy's trust is well and truly in Ciaran's hands, the general public haven't been so kind to him. Actor Johnny Ward says he's been hit by a few ladies handbags in the street, "There's been a lot of abuse of course, but there's also been a lot of nice things." He even said there's been a few kids telling him he's a legend - okaaay then.

Amelia Stuart, AKA Katy O'Brien even had members of the public reaching out to her talking about their relatives going missing and how the show handled it really well. "I think it was a very brave decision for RTÉ to do a story about kidnapping…This does affect people. This is really important."

If you're up date then you'll know Katie is out of the box but still in her trackies as she refuses to leave Ciaran. After (another) fight between Ciaran and Emmet she has stabbed Ciaran in the shoulder and is dragging him across Dublin in an attempt to help him escape. So it's all a bit of a mess. Prepare to see another night of terrible police work as the pair manage to pass by most of the Gardaí in Carrigstown, while Ciaran becomes more and more delusional and thinks Katy is Tessa. But hey, for all our whining we're still tuning in, so joke's on us.

Watch Fair City tonight at 8.00pm, RTE1.
