Yes, the weather is turning, the leaves are falling and now we're getting stories about Christmas advertisements - summer is well and truly over, people.

It's been reported by the Mail on Sunday that John Lewis have already begun preparations for their annual Christmas advertisement and have signed up Elton John for this year's efforts. An insider with knowledge of the situation said that "it's all very, very charming and the exciting crescendo at the end will be Elton playing his famous piano."

The report also claims that the advertisement will follow Elton John as a boy and jump through to different ages in life with the big reveal at the end being, of course, that it was him the whole time as he plays his breakthrough 1970 hit, 'Your Song'.

John Lewis refused to confirm or deny the report, saying that they are "lucky enough to enjoy lots of speculation around our TV ads, much of which is inaccurate, and our one rule is to never comment on any aspect simply because we want to keep the magic." The inaccurate bit of the statement is, admittedly, accurate as last year's John Lewis was originally reported to feature George Michael, but turned into something else entirely.

Whether or not Elton John ends up featuring in the advertisement remains to be seen, but expect it to cause tears either way. Anyone remember that guy on the moon? *sniff*
