We're still a few months away - 125 days, to be exact - from Game of Thrones' return, but we're starting to see more information makes it way online.

As of this week, we have a confirmed return date and we've seen the first teaser trailer for the season, but we've also now received word of a high-profile cameo in the new series. At this year's SXSW, the producers of Game of Thrones, DB Weiss and David Benioff, confirmed that Ed Sheeran will have guest-starring role in the series.

This isn't Sheeran's first acting role, having turned up in Kurt Sutter's short-lived series The Bastard Executioner. There's been no details yet on what role Sheeran will play, however Weiss and Benioff mentioned that they had tried previously to get Sheeran to appear on the show, but weren't able to work out the scheduling for it to happen.

Previous musical cameos have included Gary Lightbody from Snow Patrol, Sigur Ros and Mastodon.

Game of Thrones returns on July 16th.
