We had to have seen this coming, right?

It's been reported that Downton Abbey will finally call time when it finishes the sixth season.

It's understood that the long-running series will finish as most of the stars contracts end with the sixth season.

As fans will note, many former stars have moved on to bigger projects. Lily James, Dan Stevens, Allen Leech and more besides are now starring in feature-length, mainstream films.

Showrunner Julian Fellowes is believed to have another show, The Gilded Age, in line for US channel NBC. No casting has been announced for that show, however it's believed to have a similar period drama vibe to Downton.

As for the sixth season, the show will follow a similar schedule with eight episodes, followed by a final Christmas special.

So, thoughts? Are we happy to see Downton end? Has it lost its charm now that most of the original cast have left? Or should it continue on?
