If you're of a certain vintage, you'll recall there was a brief moment in the '90s when Superman wasn't played by a mopey teenager (Smallville) or a very buff Englishman who can't act (Man of Steel).
No, Superman was actually in a glossy soap opera that EVERYONE watched called Lois & Clark: The New Adventures Of Superman, where Superman was played by perennial straight-to-DVD actor Dean Cain and Lois was played by Desperate Housewives' Teri Hatcher.
It was a gloriously ridiculous time when nobody took superhero properties seriously and, honestly, it might have been better that way. The series ran for four seasons, but it seems like Dean Cain has unfinished business with Superman. In a recent interview with 7 News Sydney that Den Of Geek picked up, Cain talked about why the series was cancelled - and how it could come back.
As Cain tells it, Teri Hatcher "got pregnant in between and couldn’t work on that fifth season, so they decided to shut it down. I would have liked to done that fifth season, I think we still need a fifth season, we need something, at least part of a fifth season. So I’m hoping that we get a chance to maybe finish up the series."
Interestingly, both Dean Cain and Teri Hatcher have turned up on The CW's Supergirl - however Superman, in that series, is played by Tyler Hoechlin. In any event, you're probably not going to see another series of The New Adventures Of Superman on our screens any time soon, so let's enjoy that great title music instead.
