Corrie's Jack Duckworth dies aged 71
Sad news in soap land today, as the word of Bill Tarmey's passing breaks around the web. Details are scant, with the following quote from his family.
"The family of Bill Tarmey have confirmed that he sadly passed away this morning in Tenerife. They have respectfully asked the media for privacy as they grieve for a wonderful husband, father and brother"
Known to all soap fans as one half of the staple duo of Coronation Street, the Duckworths, Bill played the role for over 30 years before retiring in November of 2010 in the plot line and exit scenes that broke the hearts of many, following the exit of Vera Duckworth in 2008.
The cast and crew of the soap are understandably devastated at the news, an ITV spokesperson saying "Our thoughts and prayers are with Bill's wife and soulmate Ali and their family at this very sad time."
Below is one of the last interviews with Tarmey, where he discusses leaving Corrie and his son's illness.
