It seems that after almost two decades on the air, Big Brother's days could be numbered with the future of the show facing uncertainty at the end of this year when Channel 5's contract with the series is up.

Falling viewing figures and a general drop in the show's popularity have led to many rumours that the series will finally be cancelled. In the event of this happening, Broadcast has reported that Channel 5 is looking for a successor to the iconic reality show.

Given that the series takes up 110 primetime hours of television a year, that's a lot of programming to fill and Channel 5 want to have something in the bag if the decision is made to drop the show.

Given that it feels like every single type of reality series has been done at this stage, it will be hard to find something original.

Perhaps a Hunger Games style show where folk fight to the death? Orrr let's just embrace the dystopian future Charlie Brooker has laid out for us in Black Mirror and get Hot Shots up and running.

What? Just spitballing here, jeez.
