The actor said it had been an “absolute honour” to work on the show.

Langley has played the role of Todd Grimshaw on and off since 2001 and was the soaps first openly gay character.

"Sadly, I will no longer be working on Coronation Street. Acting on the show has been the fulfilment of a personal dream,” he said in a statement.

"Playing the role of Todd Grimshaw since I was 17 years old has been a huge part of my life, and an absolute honour."

"I would like to thank all of my friends who work on the show for their love, friendship and support during this extremely difficult period."

"I will make a further statement in due course, and when I am able to do so."

Greater Manchester Police confirmed to The Mirror that they were investigating an incident in a Manchester nightclub earlier this month.

"At around 1am on Sunday, 1st October 2017, police received a report a woman in her 30s had been sexually assaulted at an entertainment venue. Inquiries are ongoing and no arrests have been made."

It is understood that Langley and other cast members were present on the night to watch former colleague Craig Charles DJ.
