He's the head of Ireland's newest acting dynasty, and with so many great films under his belt you'd think Brendan Gleeson would give himself a break, but instead he's signed on for a new US TV pilot.

As per Deadline, Gleeson's set to star as media mogul and patriarch James Castman in the HBO commission. The Money, written by Lick, Deadwood, NYPD Blue and Hill Street Blues scribe David Milch, will apparently be all about wealth and corruption. Wonder where an Irish actor could find the inspiration for that role?

Anyway, if the pilot proves popular enough to nab a full series order, it'll be Gleeson's first EVER US TV series. Sure, he played Winston Churchill in The Gathering Storm, but that was a miniseries, not a conventional US TV offering. We wonder if he could wing a few cameos for sons Domhnall and Bríain Gleeson? Between Harry Potter and Love/Hate, they've certainly proved they're their daddy's boys.

We'll keep you posted as regards how the pilot gets on. Here's hoping our Brendan can take US TV by storm.
